So I guess not buying new has translated to not buying anything. Since my St. T's trip I have not bought anything. I looked around, but not at used stores. However I am planning a trip to Omaha where I will be going to Bigwheels to Butterflies and a used bookstore. It will be fun! The city wide garage sales in David City are soon too. Those are always fun and last year we got some amazing deals!
I really want to get into repurposing things and making my own this and that. It is hard to find time and space. But I am confident that the time will soon come.

St. T's and the first trip...
Jett and I headed out Friday to my fave thrift store. I love St. T's because it is super cheap and really awesome quality. The this and that room consistantly has things I want. When I was super broke I knew I could always round up a few dollars in change and buy myself a little something. It is where I find all my hideous sweaters, and where I take things I no longer need. So I was excited to visit it, especially since it was new merch week.
We get there about ten mins after they open, and OMG was it packed. There was no room in there at all, two cashiers, and huge lines. This thift store has three rooms and they were all full. I was so bummed my secret caught on! This was not the place to be with a 18 month old, so we grabbed a few books and left. I really want to go back when it is less packed.
This was a great way to ring in the not buying new year.

Keep Looking Forward, New Adventures Lie Ahead!
If you would ask me if I was a "shopaholic" I would without a doubt say no... but the prospect of only buying used clothes, books, music, and movies is giving me anxiety. I am having nightmares, panic attacks in dreams, and general uncomfortableness about it. I have been trying not to think about it and generally ignoring the reality (although I know that it is really not that big of a deal). All of these things made me want to start even sooner than my original April 19th deadline. It is not really that bad, everything can be bought used really. Amazon makes it real easy, as does ebay and all the local stores. So why all the anxious feelings... I am not sure, but people are generally amused that I have made this decision. At work a woman suggested that after 6 months or so I reward myself with a new product. This is tempting, but not going to happen. I want the satisfaction of going a year, I want to see the change, and I want to save the money.
I am hoping that one year I will be able to go a year without shopping, but for now that isn't a possibility. For now used will do.
Which brings me to today... Today I went shopping, I bought some ultra fine sharpies, a few things for spring for my son (he is 18 months), and some picture frames for a present. Not bad, until I got home and realized I did not buy a present for the baby shower I am going to this weekend. The sinking feeling is just settling in. But I have a plan and will not back down! Tomorrow I am going to Lincoln to my fave thrift store. I am so excited to see what I can find and to start this new chapter in my life.
I plan on updating this blog at least weekly with my adventures in the used market.
